October 3: Judges 20-21

Judges 20-21

"What is this wickedness that has taken place among you?" (20:12).  The men who had raped and killed the Levite's concubine were from Gibeah, a town of the tribe of Benjamin.  "All Israel" gathered together to punish the guilty ones responsible for the terrible crime, and they asked the Benjamites to hand the criminals over.  But the tribe of Benjamin chose to stand behind the criminals (20:13), and the result was civil war.  Tens of thousands of men died.

Romans says that approving of evil deeds makes us guilty (1:32).  We are called to uphold righteousness and defend the weak.
