October 30: James 1-2

James 1-2

“For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead” (2:26). James reminds us that belief which produces nothing is no belief at all. Even demons believe in God (v19) so simply affirming God’s existence does not make us His children. Real faith, trusting in the loving sacrifice of Jesus, flows over into a transformed life. Abraham believed, and so he obeyed God. Rahab believed, and so she risked her life for the spies.

True “religion” is when we respond to God’s mercy toward us by showing kindness to those who are hurting (1:27).
