October 31: I Samuel 16-17

I Samuel 16-17

"Then David prevailed over the Philistine ... but there was no sword in David's hand" (17:50). The details of "David and Goliath" inspire faith every time we read the story. David immediately saw that no Philistine should taunt "the armies of the living God." Young, untested, David's courage convinced Saul to let him fight. Like his best friend Jonathan, David was utterly convinced that God was real. "The name of the Lord" was a weapon and a refuge.

David's strength is available to every believer: "I come to you in the name of the Lord" (v45).
