Psalm 58
“Surely there is a God who judges on earth!” (v11). Because evil is real, we put our hope in “a God who judges.” When we are confronted with examples of wickedness (v2), we know instinctively that the world shouldn’t be this way, and our hearts cry out for justice. If evil is ignored, if the weak are always hurt and never protected, then there is no hope. But the psalmist proclaimed, “He will sweep them away with a whirlwind” (v9). One day, God will judge the earth.
We are ambassadors of God’s righteous kingdom, called to oppose evil and work for His good purposes until He returns.
