Ezekiel 12-17
“Repent and turn away from your idols” (14:6). This was God’s call to Israel, who had “set up idols in their hearts” (14:7). In chapter 16, God describes His relationship with Israel as a man who rescues a homeless woman, tenderly cleans her up and showers her with jewels, and marries her. In return, she runs after other men and murders the children she bore to her husband. Ezekiel declared that idolatry is rejecting both God’s authority and His good gifts.
But God’s merciful love calls us back from our idols. “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself” (2 Tim 2:13).
