Jeremiah 15-19

“The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” (17:9). God alone. “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways” (v10). Through Jeremiah, God declared that punishment was coming to Judah. They had forsaken “the fountain of living water” (v13) in favor of idols, even practicing child sacrifice (19:5). God could see that their evil choices resulted from the rebellion of their hearts.

Behind our actions, God sees hidden rebellion, bitterness, anger and hatred, and He wants to heal our desperately sick hearts.
