October 8: II Thessalonians 2-3

II Thessalonians 2-3

“So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught” (2:15).  Apparently, false ideas had been circulating about Jesus’ return and the resurrection.  Paul affirmed that believers would be “gathered together” when Christ returned (2:1), and he told them not to be disturbed “either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us” (2:2), saying that Christ had already come.  If they really grasped the truth already taught, they wouldn’t be easily confused by deceptions.

Instead of being disturbed by every new idea, we can be rooted in “the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ” (3:5).
