John 11:1-37
"When Jesus therefore saw her weeping ... He was deeply moved in spirit, and was troubled" (v34). Jesus knew that Lazarus was dead; the story implies that Jesus knew in advance what would happen (11:1-7). However, when confronted by Mary and Martha's tears, Jesus was genuinely moved and cried also. Though he saw the bigger picture, Jesus was affected by the pain of the present. He grieved for the sorrow His friends felt.
We feel deeply because we are made in God's image. We can pour out our hearts to our Father, knowing our emotions matter to Him.
