Psalm 123
“As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He shall be gracious to us” (v2). In ancient times, servants were included in their master’s household, and they could expect certain protections from him. When God’s people were suffering from “the contempt of the proud” (v4), the psalmist said that they were like servants who looked to their Master for help. They could not fight their enemies alone, but they could depend on the Lord.
As beloved children in God’s household (Romans 8), we can count on God to be gracious to us.
