September 10: I Samuel 7-9

I Samuel 7-9

“For they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them” (8:7).  God wanted to rule Israel, but they wanted a visible, human king like other nations.  God had given them the Law, worship rituals, land and a special covenant.  But they wanted a king, not trusting in the God they couldn’t see.  Even though God warned them of the high cost (v10-18), they gave up their freedom in exchange for the “security” of a human king.

Putting human marks of security (house, job, family) in God’s place is dangerous and costly.  He is the only King worth serving.
