Proverbs 12
“A fool's anger is known at once, but a prudent man conceals dishonor” (v16). “Conceals dishonor” can be translated “ignores an insult,” which complements the advice in this chapter about hasty words. The wise person doesn’t allow perceived insults or offenses to stir up his anger or cause him to speak without thinking. “Rash words are like sword thrusts” (v18), causing harm to other people and escalating conflict. A “prudent man” doesn’t allow his pride to control him.
In contrast, “the tongue of the wise brings healing,” and a good word can bring peace to an anxious heart (v25).
