John 6:1-40
“Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for everyone to receive a little” (v7). Practical Philip calculated that two-thirds of a year’s salary wasn’t enough to feed everyone (a denarius being about one day’s wage). But Jesus “knew what He was intending to do” (v6); He wanted to teach His disciples something extremely important. Following Jesus wasn’t just a matter of “getting to heaven.” His concern and power touched all aspects of life, including human hunger.
“Salvation” is the power of Jesus to redeem all areas of existence. Sins are forgiven, bondage is broken, wounds are healed, and hunger is satisfied.
