Psalm 119:97-176

“Thou art my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Thy word” (v114). This lengthy psalm praises God for His powerful, precious, life-giving Word. For the psalmist, the Word was the collection of laws, histories, and prophetic works of the Old Testament that taught Israel about God and His will for humans. God’s Word was a gift, “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (v105).

Centuries later, “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The wisdom of God was fully expressed in Jesus Christ, light and life of the world.
