September 16: John 5:1-18

John 5:1-18

"Arise, take up your pallet and walk" (v8).  In Jerusalem, Jesus healed a man who had been sick his whole life.  Jesus knew the Sabbath Law well, yet He commanded the man to "take up your pallet."   Walking around carrying his bed broke the Law, and the religious leaders noticed and questioned the man.  His healing was then made public, as well as Jesus' view of the Law: "My Father is working until now, and I myself am working" (v17).

Jesus didn't make a mistake.  He wants to spread His name, through our troubles as well as our triumphs.
