September 20: Colossians 3

Colossians 3

“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience …”  (v12).  Since we are declared holy in God’s sight through the work of His Son, Paul encouraged all believers to begin to walk in their new identity.  Their new life would not be found in “self-made religion” (2:23), but new hearts.  Accepted by God, they were learning to become one people in Christ: “Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised … slave and free” (v11).

Our new lives are governed by love, not self-interest, because “it is the Lord Christ whom you serve” (v24).
