John 7
“Never did a man speak the way this man speaks” (v46). The Roman officers sent to arrest Jesus during a Jewish religious festival couldn’t do it. They had no real excuse; they had simply been powerless before His words. Jesus said, “If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink” (v37). Some who heard were thirsty and received Him; others closed their hearts and plotted to kill him (v11-13).
We can try to satisfy our longings through self-improvement schemes, or romance, or entertainment. But we will still be thirsty, until we drink the water Jesus offers.
