September 20: Psalm 120

Psalm 120

“Too long has my soul had its dwelling with those who hate peace” (v6). The psalmist longed for peace, but he was surrounded by people who loved the chaos and violence of war. Apparently they stirred things up by using lies and manipulation (v2-3). The psalmist “cried to the Lord” (v1), wanting deliverance from the poisonous environment. God was with him, powerfully, but the psalmist still lived in the world.

Jesus promised to send the Spirit to dwell within His disciples, so that even though we may be surrounded by trouble, our hearts are full of His peace.
