September 21: Psalm 50

Psalm 50

“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, has spoken, and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting … May our God come and not keep silence” (v1-3).  Using 3 titles for the Creator, the psalmist shouts: He commands the earth! God has “shone forth” (v2), and we are either very glad or terrified.  He doesn’t need our sacrifices (v12).  He is not aloof; our behavior matters to Him (v16-21).  Adultery and gossip make Him angry.

With thanksgiving, we should “call upon [Him] in the day of trouble” (v14-15).  He will not keep silent; He will rescue us.
