I Samuel 16-17
“… that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s” (17:47). The Spirit was upon young David “mightily” (16:13). The scriptures emphasize that David didn’t have “a sword, a spear, and a javelin” (17:45) like Goliath. He was victorious, although “there was no sword in David’s hand” (v50). He seemed helpless, but he fought “in the name of the Lord of hosts” (v45).
The battle against evil, in ourselves and in the world, is the Lord’s. The weapons He gives us (faith, righteousness, and prayer) are all we need (Eph 6).
