September 26: 1 Timothy 2

I Timothy 2

“Likewise I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly …” (2:9). Paul’s remarks about women in this letter have been debated for centuries. Many believe that Paul was addressing a situation in Ephesus, where Timothy was leader (1:3), and which celebrated goddess worship (Acts 19). While traditionally women did not learn scriptures in Jewish synagogues, these women of faith were told to “quietly receive instruction” and continue “in faith and love …” (v15).

In a world where men and women compete for power, God calls us to live in harmony, loving each other and being examples to the world.
