September 26: Psalm 120

Psalm 120

“Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips and from a deceitful tongue” (v2).  The psalmist was tired of living among “those who hate peace” (v6).  Knowing God was the author of truth and justice, he called out for help and deliverance from his enemies.  Being human, the psalmist’s situation was also complicated by his own sin.  We are not always peacemakers or truth-tellers, and our cry for deliverance is also a cry for forgiveness.

“I am for peace” (v7).  Our prayer is both that God will defend us against evil attacks, and also make us His agents of reconciliation, truth and peace.
