September 27: Psalm 121

Psalm 121

“He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep” (v4). Even the most responsible, energetic, hard-working humans have to sleep. This psalm declares that our Creator does not sleep; He who “made heaven and earth” doesn’t get tired. Evil cannot sneak in at night and catch us by surprise; God is still awake, aware, and in charge. When we do experience trouble, He is there (though cloaked in mystery), and He is at work.

Jesus calls us to Himself, to lay down our burdens and anxieties and find rest for our souls (Matt 11:28).
