September 29: John 8

John 8

"If God were your Father, you would love Me" (v42).  Whether or not people knew the Law didn't determine their acceptance of Jesus.  The Pharisees, teachers of the Law, accused Jesus of "bearing witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true" (v13).  But Jesus said that if they knew the Father, they would know Him (and if they recognized Jesus, they would also know the Father, v19).  The condition of their hearts determined their reaction.

When Jesus heals the sick and forgives sinners, the hard-hearted protest and turn away.  Those who long for truth and love rejoice.
