September 30: Ezekiel 1-2

Ezekiel 1-2

“Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord” (1:28).  Ezekiel spends an entire chapter describing his vision of the four living beings under the throne of fire.  There is movement (wheels, and “going straight forward,” and running “to and fro”) and color, from the lapis lazuli blue of the throne to the rainbow around it (1:26-28).  Within this vision of power and brilliance, God called Ezekiel to be a fearless prophet, “though thorns and thistles are with you” (2:6).

To be faithful and courageous witnesses to Christ in a world of “thorns and thistles,” we have to first catch a glimpse of God’s glory.
