“Because your God loved Israel and would establish them forever, he has made you king over them, that you may execute justice and righteousness" (9:9). The Queen of Sheba, visiting Solomon, caught a glimpse of the peaceful, prosperous kingdom made possible by Israel’s dependence on God. She saw the wealth, the gold, silver, architecture and industry, and she realized that the object of this prosperity was “justice and righteousness.” God blessed Israel so that they could be His light in the world.
King Solomon, at that time, surpassed other kings “in riches and in wisdom” (v22). Riches without wisdom – following God’s ways – cannot produce a peaceful kingdom of “justice and righteousness.”
