I Thessalonians 3

“For now we live, if you are standing fast in the Lord” (v8).  Paul mentioned many times his “afflictions” (v3-5), the difficult way of life he had accepted as a missionary-evangelist.  He faced persecution, hunger and pain, at times prison, and also constant separation from his friends and worry over their spiritual development.  Yet all of this was bearable because he saw the fruit of his ministry: the growth of the believers, “the good news of your faith and love” (v6).

“In all our distress and affliction we have been comforted about you through your faith” (v7).  We find resilience and patience for the daily struggles of life when our hearts are set on God’s larger purposes.
