Exodus 20

"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me” (v2-3).  The God of Abraham had revealed Himself as Israel’s Deliverer (rescuing them from Egypt), and now He told them how to prosper in the Promised Land.  They should not worship the idols of Egypt, as if they were still enslaved, but rather they were called to live out their new freedom by obeying their Redeemer God.

“That your days may be long in the land …” (v12).  God shows us how to live because He loves us and wants us to thrive in our freedom.
