"You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God”. (v15). Jesus challenged the traditional views of morality and economic justice. He said that just because a person can legally divorce and remarry doesn’t mean the action is justified by God (v18); we shouldn’t confuse human approval with God’s approval. Further, even though we have the legal “right” to our own money, God sees it differently, and we have a spiritual responsibility to help the poor (v19-31).
“God knows your hearts” (v15). When we live for God’s approval alone, we have the courage to do the right thing even when it is difficult.
