“It is enough; now, O LORD …” (v4). After his great battle against the prophets of Baal, Elijah was emotionally and physically exhausted. God had shown up dramatically on Mt Carmel, sending fire out of heaven, but now Elijah was tired and scared of Queen Jezebel (v3). God directed Elijah to rest and eat for several days, regaining his strength (v4-9), and then God led him to a new mountain and spoke to him in “a low whisper” (v12). Only then was Elijah ready to accept a new task.
“The journey is too great for you” (v7). God knows we have limits, and He knows how to refresh us, restore our strength, and lead us gently forward.
