“For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous” (v19). Paul shows that Jesus is the “new Adam” who re-started the human race (v14). While we all share in and repeat Adam’s rebellion, because sin and death “reign” in our world (v14,17,21), Jesus walked in perfect obedience before the Father and broke the power of sin and death. By faith, we can share in his righteousness and become part of a new, redeemed human family.
“Grace also might reign through righteousness” (v21). We don’t have to live in Adam’s kingdom of sin and death. We can be members of Jesus’ new kingdom, ruled by grace.
