“When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream …” (v1). The Israelites were exiled from their Promised Land (Israel/Zion) due to their own rebellion, and when God brought them back decades later, their “mouths were filled with laughter” (v2). The nations watched and said, “the Lord has done great things for them!” (v2). Through Israel and ultimately through Jesus, God revealed His willingness and His power to restore what has been lost, damaged, or destroyed.
“Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!” (v5). Wherever sin and darkness have brought damage, God delights in bringing joy, healing, and wholeness.
