"For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely” (v13). Jeremiah had the sad job of announcing God’s judgment on Jerusalem, because there was “nothing but oppression in her” (v6). The religious leaders of the city had not addressed the sins of God’s people; they said “peace, peace” without repentance (v14). Jeremiah warned of the destruction that was coming as a result.
"Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls” (v16). God calls us to reject sin and choose His path so that our souls find rest.
