“He took away the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king's house. He took away everything. He also took away all the shields of gold that Solomon had made” (14:26). Just a few years prior to this, those gold shields had been made when Israel was united, peaceful, and prosperous. Now, due to idolatry, Judah (the tribe still loyal to Solomon’s son) was vulnerable, and Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem.
Shishak of Egypt took advantage of a people who had turned away from their Protector. God was looking for a nation and a king who would follow Him with their whole hearts (15:14).
